A Brighton Ballet Theater Holiday Tradition Since 1995

For generations, The Nutcracker has enchanted audiences around the world. Since 1995, Brighton Ballet Theater (BBT) has brought this beloved fairy tale to life in a special production created especially for young audiences, introducing children ages 3 and up to the beauty and magic of classical ballet. Created by BBT’s artistic director and choreographer, Edouard Kouchnarev, this delightful adaptation combines the unforgettable music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with a charming, child-friendly retelling of the classic story. Featuring some of Tchaikovsky’s most recognizable and beloved musical selections, this enchanting production captures the spirit of the original masterpiece while presenting the story in a way that is accessible, engaging, and magical for young children.

Our version introduces audiences to Mari, a young girl whose life resembles Cinderella’s. While other children dream of attending a magical holiday ball, Mari spends her time helping around the house, quietly wishing that one day she, too, could experience the joy and wonder of such a celebration. One day, while cleaning, Mari discovers a broken Nutcracker doll. What begins as an ordinary moment becomes the beginning of an extraordinary adventure. Through the magic of imagination, her Nutcracker comes to life and transforms into a prince, opening the door to a world where dreams really can come true.

What makes BBT’s Nutcracker truly special is the opportunity for children to see children on stage. Performed by Brighton Ballet Theater’s own talented students, the production allows young audience members to connect with the dancers, recognize themselves in the characters, and discover that the world of ballet is a place where they, too, can belong. More than a holiday performance, BBT’s The Nutcracker celebrates imagination, childhood, perseverance, and the power of dreams.

Bring your family and experience the magic of a timeless fairy tale, where a little girl’s dream becomes a beautiful reality.
