The Nutcracker Ballet

A Magical Tradition by Children, for Children

Dear BBT Friends,

Step into a world of wonder this holiday season with BBT’s cherished production of The Nutcracker! Crafted with heart and imagination by renowned choreographer Edouard Kouchnarev, our version of this timeless classic is designed especially for young performers—and young audiences.

More than just a performance, The Nutcracker at BBT is an essential part of our curriculum, blending artistry with education. Each student is cast in a role that reflects their level of training, allowing them to grow as both dancers and individuals. For our Pre-Professional and Advanced Division students, this is a milestone event—an opportunity to demonstrate their professional development, dedication to ballet, and readiness to take on more complex roles.

For our younger students and first-time performers, the stage becomes a place of discovery. They learn to express their personalities, work as part of a full-scale production, and understand what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves. As they bring beloved characters to life, they also gain confidence, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for the art of performance.

At BBT, The Nutcracker is more than a holiday tradition—it’s a celebration of growth, creativity, and community. We are proud to be the only nonprofit in the area offering children of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in professional-quality performances each December and June. Through this experience, our young dancers inspire each other and their audiences, sharing messages of kindness, beauty, and responsibility.

Step into the Studio: An Open Class Workshop
Before "The Nutcracker" performance, we invite parents to join us for “Step into the Studio: An Open Class
Workshop” at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14 at John Dewey High School Theater
50 Avenue X, Brooklyn, NY 11223.

This special event offers a rare glimpse into our students’ learning process.
An open class workshop is not a performance, but an inside look at the art of learning. Parents will
observe how students warm up, practice technique, and develop artistry - experiencing firsthand
what happens in the classroom every week.

Unlike a recital, this is not a polished show but a demonstration of focus, discipline, and growth.
Students will present exercises, combinations, and elements of choreography that build technique,
coordination, musicality, and expression.

We invite you to see how focus, repetition, and artistry come together in the classroom - the
foundation of every dancer’s success on stage.

At Brighton Ballet Theater, our instructors are dedicated to empowering students through a
thoughtfully designed curriculum tailored for aspiring, non-professional dancers.

After the curtain falls on this season’s Nutcracker, our dancers will begin preparing for our next major production: World of Dance 2026, featuring original choreography and more opportunities to shine.

We can’t wait to see our dancers take the stage—and we hope you’ll be there to experience the magic with us!
